On September 1, the National Energy Administration released data showing that as of the end of July 2026, China's total installed photovoltaic (PV) capacity reached 1.286 billion kW, historically surpassing coal power's 1.285 billion kW and accounting for 31.5% of the nation's total installed generation capacity — officially becoming China's largest power source by installed capacity.
This marks the first time in the century-long history of China's power industry that coal power's position as the No.1 power source has been broken.
